![]() ![]() Since we already have decouplers, the only thing extra we’ll need to turn our control rocket into an asparagus rocket is some FTX-2 External Fuel Ducts and some moving around of our decouplers in our staging. Next I’ll show you how to turn our control into an asparagus staged rocket. – Engines currently firing and the fuel for those engines) is an increase in Delta-V. Ultimately what comes from your craft becoming lighter and only keeping what I’d like to call “active mass” (a.k.a. Depending on how many tanks you have chained in the asparagus staging, this process will continually repeat, making your craft lighter and keeping only necessary parts on your craft. After a short period (dependent upon the external tank sizes and the engines used), you’ll jettison the two most outer tanks/engines and the next set of fuel tanks will fill with the remaining fuel which also does 2 things: 1) It casts off dead weight (for our purposes, 5.2 metric tons of dry mass are jettisoned every stage), increasing your TWR in that stage and 2) It transfers the remaining fuel to the next set of tanks that now become the outermost tanks. This does 2 things: 1) It saves fuel in the tanks in the inner chains and 2) It helps lower mass quickly which increases TWR for that particular stage. The basic principle behind asparagus staging is that (with this setup for ease of understanding) when you launch your craft, -all- 7 engines will be firing and will be fueled by the two most outer tanks on the external fuel duct chain. How does it work and why is Asparagus Staging more Efficient? While this design alone will reach orbit, with asparagus staging, we’ll be able to do this a bit more efficiently. It currently has 5540 Delta-V with the LV-T30’s firing first and jettisoning and then the “Skipper” taking the vessel the rest of the way. Our control (from which we will create our asparagus staged) rocket is simple enough: 1xRC-L01 Remote Guidance Unit, 1 Jumbo 64 Fuel tank, and a Rockomax “Skipper” Engine, 6 Hydraulic Detachment Manifolds, and 6 FL-T800 Fuel tanks with 6 LV-T30 Liquid Fuel Engines. A simple rocket setup without asparagus staging. ![]()
